Burn It Down Festival is Boneyard Promotions annual alternative festival, and after a years hiatus, it returns to the sunny shores of Torquay this weekend (10th-11th Sept) for one of the filthiest and heaviest weekenders around. Here’s CLUNK’s pick of the one’s not to miss!
BOB VYLAN – Saturday, Apple & Parrot, 22:00
Bob Vylan claimed one of our albums of the year 2020 slots with their début punk classic ‘We Live Here’. The two-piece unit fuse the aggression of both genres into a fearsome concoction, highlighting and exposing the life experiences of young black men growing up in the UK. Hot off tour with another of our picks for this year’s festival the twosome have been blowing up on social media for their wild live shows, just the kind you need to witness with your own eyes after 18 months of abnormal life. Expect this one to be proper naughty!
NOVA TWINS – Saturday, The Foundry, 21:30
You might need to make a choice between Nova Twins and the aforementioned Mr Vylan, but whichever band you choose you’re in for an absolute belter. This innovative two-piece smash genres together like no ones business, taking the raw energy of punk, elements of electronica and more mainstream ingredients to create heavy grunge-pop that few have displayed before. 2020’s début album ‘Who are the girls?’ received critical acclaim from numerous music journalists around the globe and their live shows match the hype created by this release, this won’t be one to easily forget.
WITCH FEVER – Saturday, Apple & Parrot, 20:00
Fresh off tour with Bob Vylan, Manchester’s own Witch Fever, had us drooling with anticipation watching their tour antics on social media, we’re extremely hyped to finally catch these girls live. A dash of Sabbath, some early Nirvana and a take-no-prisoners approach to playing live makes these one of the most exhilarating bands on the UK alternative scene.
MOTHER VULTURE – Saturday, The Foundry, Midday
I mean, if you’ve had the pleasure of seeing these boys, or have been following CLUNK for awhile, you know. If you don’t know, get to know and DO NOT miss this Bristol-based powerhouse of rock early Saturday at the Foundry, we promise it’ll help shake out Friday night’s hangover. Easily one of the wildest live shows we’ve ever witnessed!
DINOSAUR PILE-UP – Saturday, The Foundry, 22:30
Saturday night’s headliners are UK rockers Dinosaur Pile-Up, who have been a staple on festival bills for over a decade, and their hard-rocking sound and performances have gained comparisons to the legendary Foo Fighters. With an eclectic sound that encompasses most heavier genres, their unique sound has brought them millions of fans across the globe.
Singer and songwriter, Matthew Bigland’s project has settled into a corking lineup, bringing previous collaborator Jim Cratchley on bass and ex-Brownies drummer Mike Sheils onboard since 2014 and both appearing on 2019’s critically acclaimed ‘Celebrity Mansions’. These guys will be the perfect way to close up the festival!
Honestly, it was hard to just pick 6 acts to highlight from Burn It Down, the lineup this year is stacked, with plenty of variety across it’s three venues. Jamie Lenman of Reuben headlines The Foundry on Friday night, legendary UK Hardcore band Grove Street Families play The Attic and alt-pop comes courtesy of Alien Blaze and Zand Saturday afternoon too. This promises to be one of the best alternative festivals in the UK this summer!
