All Thumbs’ latest single is a pensive step that shines a light on the Irish housing crisis in a dreamy & bittersweet soundscape

Navigating companionship through the Irish housing affordability crisis, All Thumbs donโ€™t disappoint, by offering a reassuring song that washes over listeners and extends a friendly hand.

Lead guitarist, Ciarรกn Hearn, takes the stage with this track, by illuminating the melancholic cycles one can feel constantly having to move around due to soaring rents. Through this, however, companionship and comfort can be found – in this particular case its Ciarรกn’s partner and their dog โ€˜Hollyโ€™.

The lead guitar echoes with bittersweetness and is ebbed along with reverb, so reflective of pensive thought. Itโ€™s almost like we are hearing the guitar being played in one of these unaffordable rooms. The song finds Ciarรกn sat playing and mulling over the inevitability, and the cycle of being forced out, of having to find another house that is just as bad as the other. The backing vocals introduce another voice, Rosa Kinsellas, that perfectly sits and blends with the dreaminess of the music and the sentiment of the song.

This song has it all. There’s melancholia, but also with sprinkles of hope, of comfort, of love even in the bleakest of places and situations. With only three singles out All Thumbs are quickly establishing themselves as staples in the pop/indie scene. Their sound is compelling, new and hopeful – indicative of bands such as Slow Pulp, Men I Trust, Tame Impala and even hints of hey, nothing – like all great singles and art they present listeners with an issue: an ongoing crisis, so familiar with the young of Ireland. But they offer a solution and maybe even an answer. To try and find love and companionship even in times of hardship. A great single from an exciting band.
