Iโm a writer hailing from the distant land of Norfolk. With a deep love for vinyl, currently standing at over 100 in my collection. When it comes to picking a favourite artist, it will always be the sounds of Trish Keenan and Broadcast.
Hull’s bdrmm are back with ‘Infinity Peaking,’ the second single from their new album ‘Microtonic,’ out on 28th February
‘Infinity Peaking’ is full of transcendent bliss, the feeling of being lost in the world. bdrmm’s sound never stops evolving, absorbing more dance music elements.
Singer and Guitarist Ryan Smith describes ‘Infinity Peaking’ as a track that “encapsulates the band we were and the band we are now, that careful balance of shoegaze and electronica. It was written when I was in Malaga, and is the first track I wrote that wasn’t in some dingy bedroom. I feel like it captures the location that is reminiscent of The Durutti Column’s ‘Hotel of the Lake, 1990.‘”
The reference to The Durutti Column encapsulatesย the direction bdrmm are heading on upcoming album ‘Mictrotronic,’ with the track evoking a surreal feeling, akin to ‘Sketch For Summer’ by the former band.ย
An overcast feeling lingers over the chorus, repeating over and over again “It feels like I’m losing my way” before the single falls deeper into a sense of contemplation. Lyrically, this is incredibly invocative, and I found myself being drawn in by the dreamlike reverie. The atmosphere lulls you in, and by the end of the five minute track length, it takes you above and beyond the bedroom setting you are listening in.
New album ‘Microtonic‘ is out 28th February via Mogwai’s Rock Action label.
