London sextet Home Counties, disillusioned with London living, blaze their way into Art-rock existence in newest single ‘Meet Me In The Flat Roof’

Consistently championing often ignored upcoming artists from Cornwall and the South West music scene to show what amazing talent can be found outside of the big cities!
‘Meet Me In The Flat Roof’ bends genre, arpeggiates awareness, comments socially, and entices listeners in with innovative hooks and nostalgic effects. It’s a sound bath of instruments and synth sounds of the type that feel like they have been shot from outer space.
Opening with an industrially robotic synth and foghorn, the song sets itself as a 90s dance track with a brooding backbeat and synth drone that latches onto the listener’s ears and begs them to stay to see where the song could progress – which is not where you might think! Will Harrison’s sardonic frankness, together with dreamy backing vocals and a shimmering guitar lays down the harmony, all whilst the industrial synths clang and a drum machine patters beneath it all.
‘Meet Me In The Flat Roof‘ is also an indie rock track; a song that would fit in seamlessly to the backing track of an arcade game. Home Counties have succeeded with this latest single in creating the perfect dance of nostalgia, with fun and impassioned, yet subtle, social commentary.
Frontman, Will Harrison, says the single is about “Pub appreciation, with the hope of conveying some self-awareness – It’s about the tendency to brag about going to ‘authentic’ places whilst simultaneously contributing to their gentrification at the same time.” A statement so supported by the instrumentation, the 80s/90s feel, the futuristic clangs, expert production and vocal delivery that hits such an evocative and friendly chord in the listener. As young people we are contributing to systems and things without necessarily being aware – Home Counties‘ latest single eludes to precisely this- having fun, being with friends, going to ‘authentic’ places but being aware the underlying processes you could be contributing too.
Produced by the infamous AL Doyle (LCD Soundsytem) this single and the upcoming album, ‘Humdrum‘, out on the 24th October, promises listeners a soundscape of effects, tasteful harmonies, varying structures and a wave of music that submerges listeners into the noise, the fun, and humour of the unique genre that is Home Counties.
