Susie (she/her) is a freelance writer from Cornwall. She is based in Bristol, where she is studying for her Masters in Journalism.
She loves finding new music, and can often be found at obscure venues in Bristol looking for the next thing that makes her tick, whether it’s dad rock, indie folk, or punk.
Lime Garden are back with a bang, releasing their new single ‘23’ in what feels like a defiant, free-spirited reclamation of their sound.
Opening with “at 17 I had the world at my hands and at 23 I just lost it”, this disco-infused indie rock track feels like coming back to what’s important, rediscovering a sense of self and learning who you are as you get older.
With bright, twinkling synths and an ever-present, funk-driven bassline, ‘23’ is infectious and exciting. According to the band, the song is aimed to capture the feeling of “fizzing with the anticipation of stepping into a club at the very start of a night out”, and they have truly distilled this essence perfectly.
The track is adventurous and full to the brim of possibility, but veering away from the well-known coming-of-age angle. Instead, ‘23’ embraces the unknown, settles into that place of mild anxiety about the future that is so common in your 20s, and resorts to dancing your way through the chaos.
The track is the lead single of Lime Garden’s upcoming sophomore album ‘Maybe Not Tonight’, which is set to be released on April 10 through So Young Records. The album, vocalist and guitarist Chloe Howard explained, is about “a night out, from start to finish” and, if this track is anything to go by, we’re in for one hell of a night out.
