Neighbour Club continue to share their unique brand of indie rock with second single ‘Only Fractions’, ahead of debut EP ‘Snail Mail’ coming September 25th.
Following the release of ‘Gold Leaf Girl’, Neighbour Club serve us another single alongside the announcement of their debut EP ‘Snail Mail‘. More trudging and soupy than the first single, ‘Only Fractions’ is a song for those times when the cosiness of a Sunday at home is the only thing softening the bite of a hangover.
The lyrics are a self-proclaimed “look at relationships passed” and Lydia Shaw’s words have a stream of consciousness to them. Fragments of thoughts and images are arranged in a pastiche; ‘she said she only really knew you late at night’, ‘put through the paces with two left feet, this is a start’, reflecting the noxious flashing of all the worst conversations we have ever had through our mind mediated, of course, via the illogic of hangxiety.
The refrain, ‘I only worked it out’, though, leaves a hopeful taste in the mouth. Despite the past pain of all our failed relationships, time serves as a buoyant buffer, and so does ‘Only Fractions’’ slightly stoned instrumental. Apart from a few moments of twinkling respite, the instrumental repeats more or less throughout the track, reflecting the cyclical, but comforting monotony of life; relationships starting and ending, weekends coming and going.
With a couple of anticipated London shows this September, Neighbour Club look to translate their enveloping brand of indie rock to a live setting just before the release of their debut EP on 25th September. On the strength of this single, both are not to be missed.
