Welsh four-piece Redwood City’s latest track sees them bridge a happy gap between alternative rock and pop, with latest track ‘Too Soon’.
Redwood City are good at leaning into feel-good and summery aesthetics. From their artwork to their social media presence, hazy and warm colours feature prominently, and those themes finely culminate in their tracks. 2024’s ‘Uptight’ epitomised the band’s ability to write a hook primed for lads in bucket hats to sing up and down the country.
2026 sees the Welsh four-piece return with latest single ‘Too Soon’. Although the band have always had pop sensibilities, ‘Too Soon’ is perhaps Redwood City’s most direct nod to the genre driven by a cantering acoustic guitar, the engine behind the track.
Lead vocalist, Evan Burridge, paints a picture of someone looking inward at themselves and there is a certain yearning in his voice as he does so. Without losing a sense of optimism the chorus speaks of falling too soon for someone, whilst the verses carry that introspection. ‘I got high again. But I’m still waiting for the rain to end. Give me something new!’
There is space in ‘Too Soon’ for the electric guitar to shine. A shimmering solo helps the track climb in its final stages and is ever present on the periphery of ‘Too Soon’, waiting to come into its own.
Redwood City are set to play the This Feeling HQ stage at Isle Of Wight Festival on Sunday 21st June.
