Drummer first and foremost, but will happily give an opinion on anything rock, indie and punk related.
Falmouth four-piece Shoes Off produce rage and riot sound in latest single ‘This Is Sublime‘
Local Falmouth rockers Shoes Off have been making themselves known in the big bad world of music with the release of two singles in the past month. Their latest single, ‘This Is Sublime’, is an incredible combination of hard-hitting bass rhythms and drum grooves coupled with angelic vocals. These elements make for a memorable three minutes and forty six seconds of hard-hitting punk rock.
The female-led 4-piece are also a formidable live act. I was present at one of their two release shows for their previous single, ‘Violent Flowers’, a track that shows equal promise for the emerging group. Their energy and presence onstage translates well into their recorded work which, for me, is so important for any good hard rock record.
I think my favourite aspect of ‘This Is Sublime’ would have to be the wonderful contradiction between the distortion of the guitars and the polished soaring vocals, which is a timeless pairing that creates a perfect dissonance in the song. Although this song is a clear cut rock tune, I think there is an underlying tenderness and angelic quality to their music and the ways in which they display ‘rage and riot’, as the band put it. I think that is what makes ‘This Is Sublime‘ stand out for me mostly.
Overall, this track shows a fantastic amount of talent from the group and leaves me wondering what is next from them! This track has already been boasted on radio from BBC Introducing South West, so I think it is safe to say the word has been spread.
So, feel free to stream this tune wherever you see fit. This band can be found lurking in the many venues of Falmouth town if you’re looking for a good head-bang… Just take your footwear off first.
