Falmouth three-piece Serenes release uniquely DIY debut single ‘Passing You By’

Cornish up-and-comers, Serenes, make their biggest step up the ladder so far in their career with their debut release โ€“ โ€˜Passing You Byโ€™. After steadily establishing themselves across the talent machine that is the Cornwall gigging scene, in venues such as the iconic Cornish Bank, the Falmouth three-piece have unleashed a five-minute whirlwind of raw emotion upon their ever-expanding audience.

Uniquely DIY, โ€˜Passing You Byโ€™ comes equipped with twinkly twangs and head banging riffs reminiscent of self-admitted influences such as Title Fight and Dinosaur Jr. Easing you in before the gut-wrenching, heartstring pulling vocals wash over, the track shows glimpses of the type of hard-hitting, punk inspired indie-rock that influenced it. Yet it never settles too close to familiarity.

Against the grain yet reminiscent of better times, Serenes have shown themselves to be inventive and dynamic with this release โ€“ no doubt pleasing superfans of their influences in a world begging for a Title Fight reunion, a world longing for a return of that early 2010โ€™s scene.

In a way, Serenes have a darker feel that sets them aside from that genre, a grungier sound similar to many bands coming out of the UK right now. Their first step is certainly a step in the right direction.
