Bristol band Sunglasz Vendor drop noisy and uneasy new single ‘Brick King’ ahead of their UK tour
Sunglasz Vendorโs second single, ‘Brick King‘, is a song that swings between sudden crescendos and off-kilter radio riffs. ‘Brick King‘ repeatedly grinds its rough edges into steady grooves, dragging its heels with slacker swagger, before lurching into a mess of noise.
Recorded by William Carkeet in the basement of Bristolโs iconic Louisiana on their own DIY label, Vendrrrz, the band are showing off their sonic diversity following their debut, ‘Sophisticated Thief‘, which would have sat pretty at the confluence of 90โs post-hardcore and emo.
Sunglasz Vendor were formed in 2023 from the crusty corners of Bristolโs underground music scene, with ties to Bingo Fury, Ex-Agent, Big Fuss, and Grandchild. The band members have stepped sideways from their art-rock roots with this project, diving into a sound thatโs as immediate as any great alt-rock banger.
Screeching guitars and taut drums dig into the uneasy, all-too-relatable tension of watching others move through their lives while you feel stuck and ultimately left behind. Vocalist Rafi Cohen says “there are points where you feel parts of yourself slowly draining awayโnot in any visible way, but something you canโt quite shake. And in old circles of friends, those changes stick out, uneven and out of time with each other.”
‘Brick King‘ leans into that unevennessโ the way our lives can fall out of sync with one anotherโs, moments of connection slipping through the cracks. The track doesnโt smooth those edges or offer resolution, it sits squarely in that tension.
Sharp, tangled guitars and twisted rhythms overlap and compete, whilst each abrupt shift pulls you deeper into the songโs restlessness. Sudden quiet and sudden noise disorient you in just the right way. Then, it all ends, leaving everything unresolvedโlike a conversation that stops mid-sentence, and youโre left haunted by what went unsaid.
