As beloved North Carolina duo, Sylvan Esso, gear up to release their first studio album in four years, the ever-evolving electropoppers have released ‘On & On’.

Joining Amelia and Nick for this one is a star studded band, even featuring drumming from Wilco’s Glenn Kotche. Like its creators, ‘On & On’ is wonderfully melancholy. The plucky guitar-led choruses and their vocals feel like something that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the last Big Thief record. But if you let it grow into itself, the beautiful, calming vocal remains yet is paired with a growing synth and an ear-worm repeater chorus.

‘On & On’, alongside its summery music video, tells its story through a varied, layered soundscape. It feels intimate and important before growing into a behemoth.

‘Ow ∞’, the new record from Sylvan Esso, is released on September 11th. And if it features anything as good as this one, we’re in for a treat.
