Cornwall is flush with musical talent – and is home to Boardmasters, one of the UKโs biggest music festivals – but here are just five artists we think you should check out on St. Pirans Day
Today is St. Piran’s day, a day of celebration for us folk down in Cornwall. So, on this special day we thought it would be a good opportunity to boast and showcase the amazing artists we have down here. Ranging from the 70’s infused sounds of Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals to the stoner/psychedelic rock fused Mothman, The Man. Weโre so proud of all the amazing artists that call this place home and thankful that festivals such as Boardmasters give these acts a place to showcase their music.
Be sure to check them out, follow on Spotify, and hopefully catch them at Boardmasters.
Gool Peran Lowen!
Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals

The Cornwall based singer-songwriter starts fresh in 2024 with the forming of her band Bailey Tomkinson & The Locals. Hailing out of the popular seaside destination and artistic hub of St. Ives, they carry an influence that is draped in 70โs velvet. Bailey has spent the last few years building a strong reputation as a singer songwriter with features in national press and regularly hitting the iTunes charts, recently out performing Dua Lipa and The Pussycat Dolls. Now in 2024, she returns but backed by a full band, bringing her sound to new heights and power. Itโs going to be an exciting year for Bailey and her locals.
MOPES

The Newquay based band formed by Connor Powell, who is Cornwallโs answer to Ty Segall has captivated audiences locally. However, now the band have relocated to London to study and whilst there they have become regulars at The George Tavern and Amersham Arms. Their Pixies a la Television inspired band are fast rising in London and it wonโt be long till theyโre dominating the BBC 6 airwaves.
Peri Rae

Another St Ives artist Peri Rae found huge success in platforms such as TikTok, which saw her gather millions of views, leading to opening for Alfie Templeman on a recent tour. In addition to this, her debut EP โHanding You My Heartโ gathered a million streams in the first week on Spotify. Itโs no wonder that Periโs music career has kicked off the way that it has. Her honest, open, and vulnerable songwriting backed sonically by a folk twang makes for delightful listening.ย
Mothman, The Man

This band has been operating out of the Falmouth scene for roughly 4 years and as each one goes by, they only grow in sound and strength. So much so that theyโre arguably the premiere rock band from Cornwall right now. Their sound is a splendid, if not hard hitting, blend of King Gizzard & The lizard Wizard with Hawkwind. Itโs fuzzy, full of riffs, and guaranteed to send a crowd into a frenzy. For those about to rock, we suggest you soundtrack it with Mothman, The man.
Factor 50

Cornwall (via Bristol) Factor 50 have been bringing their wonky, weirdo indie rock to venues across the south-west for a couple of years. In that time, theyโve amassed thousands of streams, opened for the likes of FEET and The Orielles, as well as a committed and ever growing fan base. Their off-kilter indie is equal parts awkward and infectious, never failing to get a room awake and taking notice. Itโs still early days for the young band but all signs are pointing to success, much like MOPES, theyโre destined for BBC Radio 6 airtime.
