Dublin noise rock band Gilla Band drop new single ‘Giraffe,’ their first new music in four years, alongside news of a UK/Europe/US tour

Today, Dublin noise rock legends Gilla Band have dropped their new single ‘Giraffe‘ via Rough Trade Records. The track is their first new music in four years, their last release being 2022’s abrasive and unhinged album ‘Most Normal’.

Alongside this new single, the band have announced a huge tour, taking to the US in October and Europe/UK in January 2027.

โ€œIn this track, the first few sections represent what my general headspace is like. It can be a very scattered and sometimes lonely place. Feeling unloved and finding it difficult to articulate what Iโ€™m actually thinking,” frontman Dara Kiely shares, “The outro on the other hand indirectly details a kind of confirmation that affection towards me does exist. While I appreciate it, I still find that hard to believe.”

Instrumentally, ‘Giraffe‘ matches this sentiment. The track opens in an uncharacteristically normal fashion, driven by a catchy bassline and Kiely’s signature drawl. Before long, heavily distorted guitars and drums fill the space, howling and scratching their way through. Halfway through, Gilla Band take a sudden right turn, with a skittering drum giving the track a real groove.

This, paired with the instrumentation of the first section, leads to a chaotic dance of noise and club music. ‘Giraffe’ is certainly one of Gilla Band’s more accessible songs, but loses none of the edge and character that the experimental scene has adored them for over the years. It’s the perfect first glimpse into their new chapter.

‘Giraffe’ is out now via Rough Trade Records.
