Gilla Band guitarist Alan Duggan Borges announces new project The Null Club and drops debut single featuring Mandy, Indiana’s Valentine Caulfield

Alan Duggan Borges, guitarist and producer of legendary Dublin noise rock band Gilla Band, has today announced his new solo project The Null Club. The self-titled debut EP is set for release on 4th April and features some familiar names: Faris Badwan (The Horrors), ELUCID, and Valentine Caulfield (Mandy, Indiana).

Alan shared that these collaborations occurred naturally, with him meeting Caulfield at a festival and with both Badwan and ELUCID having reached out to Gilla Band previously; all are huge inspirations on the producer.

Slip Angle (feat. Valentine Caulfield) is an incredibly bold debut single. A pulsating techno beat is layered with noise, distortion and an ominous wail, while Caulfield’s typical French spoken vocals sound right at home luring us into this twisted world. The beat is so sinister, consistently pounding while noise continue to evolve and multiply, leaving us with an impenetrable wall of sound. When everything cuts out, we are left stranded, before the techno beat returns once more to suck us up once and for all.

While this may seem like a change in direction for Alan Duggan Borges, much of Gilla Band’s most recent album ‘Most Normal’ teased this blend of noise rock and techno, especially on the opening track. It is so exciting to see The Null Club fully lean into this sound with help from one of the most alluring and unique voices in the scene. We cannot wait to see how the other collaborations pan out.
