We first discovered the Portland artist late 2017 with her single ‘Oom Sha La La’, a beautifully crafted track that allows an insight into Hayley’s world. The lo-fi indie psych atmosphere created through her music is nothing short of infectious, tranquil and very enjoyable. Now on March 2nd we can expect her debut LP ‘I Need To Start A Garden’ which will hopefully bring a collection of deeply emotive tracks draped in a veil of dreamy soundscapes. With this in mind we wanted to have a quick chat with her regarding the release and her influences.

CLUNK: Hello Haley, thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions we hope you are well?

HH: All is well here, hope the same for you over there.

CLUNK: What can we expect from the debut release in 2018?

HH: Anxious lyrics, primitive guitar, a wonderful band that helps turn my simple songs into something spicier. After the release, you’ll probably see me with a new head of gray hair from touring sporadically through the US/UK/EU.

CLUNK: Was there a particular influence or story that you wanted to portray across the album?

HH: I wish I could say there was. Each song came from a different chapter of life, and I hope the listener can derive their own story from the entirety of the album.

CLUNK: What’s the story behind the debut single  ‘Oom Sha La La’ ?

HH: The song was written during a songwriting challenge some friends were hosting. It was an embarrassing stream of consciousness experiment that went much further than ever expected. I think it’s important to allow ourselves to be embarrassed sometimes, it helps us grow in one way or another.

CLUNK: If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why?

HH: Badass ladies of the 60s who were in the mood to share some tunes. I think blending vocals with Vashti Bunyan would be great fun. I just learned of an artist named Norma Tanega who also shared lots of catchy music from the 60s.

CLUNK: Thanks for answering our questions, hopefully see you soon!

HH: Be seeing you soon!
