Bristol punk quartet, Heavy Lungs, announce extensive UK/EU tour and drop new single ‘Yes Chef’ ahead of second album
Formed in 2017, Heavy Lungs quickly cemented their status as a post-punk essential, rising to prominence quickly, amidst close friends IDLES and notorious post-punk outfit, Fontaines D.C. The start of 2025 finds Heavy Lungs months away from dropping their new album ‘Caviar’ and announcing a headline UK/EU tour to follow, promising fans a chance to experience the thick noise that envelops, the snares that punch and the voice that accentuates it all.
Following their 2024 single ‘Get Out’, Heavy Lungs bless our ears once again with new single ‘Yes Chef’. Self-proclaimed ‘hospitality legends’ Heavy Lungs‘ latest single immediately grabs listeners with a car crash of white noise, reflecting the jarring atmosphere of working in hospitality and the dystopian plunge one has to make at the start of every shift to get through it.
‘Yes Chef’ perfectly encapsulates the rage of working to orders: ‘Yes chef, oui chef’, ‘It never stops, bon appetit, we never sleep.’ This, coupled with the mean and repetitive guitar part, solidifies the regimentation of working in hospitality. Frontman Danny Nedelko’s vocals punch through the myriad of angry noise – indicative to that of early eighties punk bands such as G.B.H and Discharge.
‘Yes Chef’ sympathises with listeners in similar jobs who are also feeling disillusioned – ‘Over-done, over-priced, undercooked’ – whilst being constantly criticised – ‘smiled wrong’. Humour and irony is woven throughout. This is most prominent at the end when the timer dings, signalling the end of the song, but also a reminder that despite your frustration the food still needs to be cooked, the job needs to be done and the cycle will, invariably, start all over again.
New album ‘Caviar’ is out on 18th April via FatCat Records.
