Brighton’s Honeybadger talk to us about their new single ‘Gone Cold’, life as a band in Brighton, and much more!
The high energy garage punk outfit Honeybadger whom reside in the seaside city of Brighton have come out swinging with their latest single ‘Gone Cold’, a ferocious, riff driven number that is oozing in pure rock spirit. After getting our ears rinsed by their large rock sound we were desperate to know about the people behind the cacophonous sound.
So, we reached out and had a chat with Honeybadger about their life in Brighton, new music, and much more.
Kieran: How’s your summer (what we’ve had of it) been going so far?ย
HB: Despite the dismal weather weโve hadย ย one of our best summers yet! Weโve played with so many amazing bands with the highlight being our headline show at the Prince Albert for our single release. We also just played a thrasher at the Old Blue Post with Dead Air for their EP launch which was just insane – great people and a great atmosphere not much more you could want! And most of all weโve been preparing for the release of our debut EP. Every song has had so much put into it and we canโt wait to share it with everyone.
Kieran: What’s life like as a band in Brighton?ย
HB: Couldnโt possibly be anywhere else. The whole town has a warm energy which goes hand in hand with the music scene. As everything is so close together thereโs a great sense of community where you get to know the bands and the punters and everything just comes together!ย
Kieran: How did you all meet and when did you decide to form the band?
HB: Joe and Eddy began the band at ages 10 & 7 respectively with the final piece of the puzzle joining in Year 8 at age 13 – initially focusing on his first band. We all felt a deep connection from that point onwards, with Eddyโs knack for songwriting becoming more and more apparent. Eventually Lucaโs other band split but by that point Honeybadger was everyoneโs top priority. Starting out busking and then moving onto pubs, Joe & Eddy had been gigging from an early age but by the end of secondary school we had been starting moshpits at the iconic Brighton venue The Haunt, now going by Chalk.
Kieran: What’s a common misconception of bands based in Brighton?ย
HB: There are no misconceptions.ย Everythingย you hear is true.
Kieran: What other bands in Brighton do you think we should check out?ย
HB: Thereโs so many! Bones Ate Arfa, City Dog, Mindframe, Modessa, Jar of Blind Flies, Monakis, Electric Cowboy Club, Fisheye, Kitchen Lover, Epsom Salts, & House of Plenty.
Kieran: How do you feel the city influences you and your sound?ย
HB: We love the easy going atmosphere in Brighton, itโs always nice walking the lanes into day and going out in town later on. Also all the great music and bands produced from this city has inspired us from young.
Kieran: What bands and artists have influenced you generally?ย
HB: The band as a whole are influenced by Demob Happy, The White Stripes, QOTSA, Frank Carter, Drenge, Soft Play, Them Crooked Vultures & Ty Segall. We love a bit a bit of psychedelic or garage rock as well but we donโt just listen to rock listen to rock – reggae, hip-hop and dance are in the regular rotation as well.
Kieran: So, you recently dropped your latest single ‘Gone Cold’, can you talk us through this track and what it means to you?ย
HB: ‘Gone Cold’ is about recognising when the attraction was rooted not in the substance of something, but rather in the idea of what it represented. It captures the journey of figuring out genuine affection from surface level connection, highlighting the often painful process of confronting the truth behind our desires.

Kieran: Lastly, what else can we expect from you in 2024?
HB: As previously mentioned weโve got our debut EP dropping in Autumn with our best tunes yet! Weโve really pulled out all the stops for this one, and weโre proud of the diversity of the tracks on there and the journey it takes you on. Weโve been working with our producer Win for over 4 years and weโre now at the point where we know how to get the best out of each other and the proof is in the pudding. Itโs been a long time in the works and we know itโs gonna turn heads so keep an eye out for the opening track and our next single to release Maybe I! Weโve always got shows coming up and weโre planning some hometown gigs as well as many trips out of town.
