South London’s Kick Boy’s recent EP is a wild, frantic, and off kilter experience that adds some spice to a bland post-punk scene
The self described “Milk-Punk” outfit Kick Boy (still figuring that one out) from South London recently dropped the ‘Ick Boy’ EP, a collection of wonky, sharp edged post-punk that is reminiscent of Parquet Courts and the B-52’s. The band find comfort in chaos and this is ever evident during the entire EP, specifically the opening self-titled song (‘Ick Boy’). ‘Ick Boy’ opens with a strained guitar and the near unsettling, yet alluring vocals, all meeting at a wild and frantic crescendo towards the chorus. It’s one of those songs that is so bursting with energy it almost transports you to the sweaty, low ceilinged venue where they clearly dominate. It’s an exciting release by the band that acts as a great taster of what is to come from this fledgling outfit.
