Fresh from the release of their 2026 album ‘Halcyon Blues,’ Citizen pack out The Prospect Building, blowing away fans both old and new
Making their debut in 2009 and with a career spanning the last 20 years and counting, Citizen have been there for the formative parts of many fansโ lives. Chatting with some members of the audience before the show, they told me about all the situations where this bandโs music has carried them through life: everything from breakups to navigating school dramas to introducing their friends to the music.ย
The Prospect Building was full of new and old fans alike. Citizenโs new album ‘Halcyon‘, released in August this year, has drawn a fanbase on the more poppy end of their discography, whist older fans enjoyed fan favourites from their 2013 debut album ‘Youth‘. Coming together as one unit, the crowd rose to the challenge of keeping the movement going throughout the show with push pits, jumping, and crowd surfing.ย

One audience member proudly announced to me that that was his first time ever crowd surfing while another told me that this was his first ever gig. Being with people who grew up on this music next to people experiencing this world for the first time was such a privilege. It was hard not to enjoy the energy in the room all night. I was even caught afterwards by a member of security who jokingly told me off for dancing instead of working, to which I declared I was obligated to do both.
With high energy both on and off the stage and two fantastic supports, Thistle and Modern Colour, this gig was a perfectly well-rounded night, satisfying both new fans and former emo kids alike.ย
