Bristol’s synth-punks Mass House transform an empty room into a bustling dance party in Shoreditch
Never in my life have I had the pleasure of a private gig, but for roughly 20 minutes on a Friday night in Shoreditch it happened. In the basement of Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes, electronic duo Mass House performed. The Bristol-based Brummies played an amazing set, with bangers like ‘Reasons To Be Dancing‘ and new single ‘Fantastic Planet‘.ย
Equal parts irreverent and amazing, Iโve managed to see the pair twice before. These gigs however, were in Bristol. The South-West has obviously cottoned on to these guys, but London still has a ways to go. When the set kicked off, a friend and I (as well as a bartender) were the only spectators in the room.
As a fan, it was a treat, but I couldnโt help but be angry on the band’s behalf. Luckily they brought it, elevating the energy of the room. The brilliant beats summoned the masses, and by the midpoint of the set, it was wall to wall dancing. By the end, there were chants for one more song.ย
I feel the need to make a public service announcement to the capital: Wake Up! Go to more gigs, delve into the basement venues, listen to the undiscovered artists. You might just be in for a treat. You might just stumble upon Mass House.ย
