Showcasing their debut album ‘One More Thing’, Lime Garden strip it all back like never before on their record store tour

Having followed Lime Gardenโ€™s journey over the last year and reviewing their debut album, I felt so lucky to witness the record in what I imagine is its original form – stripped back and vulnerable. As the band stepped foot onto the Rough Trade stage, lead singer Chloe Howard joked that performing these intimate sets have been harder to do than their usual gigs and apologised in advance for not being able to look fans in the eye. The guitars chimed and they went as they kicked off the set with โ€˜Pop Starโ€™.ย

Seeing these songs performed up close and personal in such an intimate setting allowed for the lyrics to shine through as the true star of their debut album – alongside her never-wavering clean-cut vocals. After performing both โ€˜Motherโ€™ and โ€˜Fearsโ€™, in her own awkward way Howard announced that it was โ€˜time for tearsโ€™ and they played the melancholy track โ€˜Pineโ€™.

The song left the room in a dreamlike state as her angelic voice poured through the space. Cutting through the silence she announced a matter of fact โ€œItโ€™s quite miserable.โ€ Kicking it up a notch with fan favourite โ€˜Love Songโ€™, followed by โ€˜I Want to Be Youโ€™ the girls of Lime Garden delivered a laid-back version that further emphasised its melodic, toe-tapping quality, as bodies swayed to the words โ€˜I wanna be you so bad, I wanna really see you, Wanna touch your skin in the dark, I wanna really feel youโ€™.

Whilst the set was short and sweet it left me pining for more and dying to see this album play out in its entirety with all of the instrumentation on a stage someday soon.
