Drummer first and foremost, but will happily give an opinion on anything rock, indie and punk related.
Following their recent appearance at Boardmasters, Falmouth band REDRØ took over Kings, supported by The Razz And The Rose
Only in a town as intimately interconnected as Falmouth can you find a humble gathering of folks ready to devote a few hours of their evening to the benefit of their local music scene. This particular evening was one headlined by REDRØ, a hard-hitting indie outfit who are carving out their own sound and making waves in the county of Cornwall.
The Razz and The Rose

All great gigs, both local and beyond, require an enticing support act. I can say with confidence that the support of this evening’s proceedings, The Razz and The Rose, won’t be supporting bands around town for much longer. These guys are truly treading undiscovered waters with their ‘theatrical fusion’ style born out of many tumultuous Jam nights at the nearby Chintz Bar, which has moulded a band which is setting itself apart from the scene in the most unique way.
You can tell The Razz and The Rose have been itching to get performing again after a 3-month long summer hiatus. They sported a brand new setlist and even had a couple guest member appearances in Sylvie-Rose on vocals and Rhys Apollo on bass. Highlighting the band’s diversity, their sound explores rock, jazz, musical theatre and funk elements to create a performance that completely decimates all expectations you may have had before they played their first note.
Their overall performance was tight-knit and obsessively creative, with enchanting lyricism from lead vocalist Noah Rose, whose dancing vocals and jazzy piano progressions couple brilliantly with expert guitar work from Dylan James, and jaw-dropping chops from Jude Mcbride on drums. Some stand out moments from their set included their tunes ‘Silence’ and ‘Complicated Love’.
‘Silence’ was a song that fully conveyed the bands prowess, utilising augmented chords and use of expressive drumming to accompany a brilliant power ballad, whilst ‘Complicated Love’ was a favourite of the band and a staple in their set; it’s the first tune they played together and credited it for bringing the band together.
This band is one that is here to stay and will be seen etched on the gig posters of Falmouth for the foreseeable future. Their music is impressively unique and separates them from the crowd of bands in the local scene by some stretch. Although a large portion of their potential audience may have not discovered them yet, when they do, they are in for a treat.
Lead vocalist Noah Rose has recently released his own original single ‘Pretty’ on all major streaming platforms. Check out the video here:
REDRØ
Now onto the headlining act, REDRØ. With their classic indie shoegaze sound, this lot knocked it out of the park. Dreamy, catchy and punchy riffs using tons of delay and effects – what more can you want? Guitar duo Finn and Andy have managed to formulate their own wall of glorious sparkling sound, filling the room and encapsulating the audience in their vision. Their sound is fully fleshed out, their performance packed with energy and life. It was truly a captivating set. A highlight was Ruby’s powerful and angelic vocals, which simply put the icing on the cake of the whole spectacle.

Drummer Jacob held down and tamed the beast that is REDRØ with tight fills and a solid backbeat throughout, further emphasising this band’s brilliant live sound which is sure to translate onto some incredible recordings in the future.
Although all of their tracks fully quenched my furious thirst for bellowing indie rock anthems, ‘Face Like Thunder’ was a particular favourite of mine during their set. I am simply begging that this band release some of their material to the world, and they did indeed tease at that prospect. So perhaps keep your eyes peeled… in the meantime, keep your eyes out in Falmouth and beyond for this lot!

All in all, this is just a sample size of the brilliant bands you can see at venues all across Falmouth, even on a Tuesday night! We truly are spoilt for choice and I personally could not be more grateful for it. Both REDRØ and The Razz and The Rose are names to remember, both for future gigs and for bragging rights when these lot find the success they all deserve. If you’re in the local area to Falmouth, I urge you to get out and see as many local bands as possible. If you already are, I guess I’ll see you out there!
