To The Lightouse (FKA Wax-Tree-Cast) showcase all new material in Huddersfield with capable support from Bryony Williams and The Caymans

My first visit to Huddersfield’s Parish was a matter of perfect timing. At the same time I was traveling back up north through Huddersfield, the talented lot in To The Lighthouse, formerly Wax-Tree-Cast, headlined the venue with support from Bryony Williams and The Caymans.

The evening started off wonderfully with vibrant and cathartic pop-rock artist Bryony Williams and her fun-to-watch band. Thunderous drums were stewed forward by slick riffs and warm bass lines, all dressing the warm voice of Bryony. Nervous at the start of her set, she quickly became comfortable and took the stage as if it was hers. With poetic songs about love and heartbreak, she captured me quite instantly Fingers crossed the Southampton outfit will soon grace stages up North again.

Main support came from The Caymans, who truly took us on a journey throughout their set as they swayed between indie, pop, rock and what leaned against punk rock through wandering guitar play, strong vocal harmonies, and heavy drum rolls. It took me a little while to get into their suave indie stage presence but their genre-defying sound convinced me and had me captivated after the first track.

They were in fact the perfect band to open for Halifax trio To The Lighthouse. Having abandoned most of their previously released material, most of us were in for a surprise, and To The Lighthouse delivered a blinding one.

Showcasing true musicianship, passion and a well-crafted, perfectly honed sound, the three entered the stage guns ablazing. Slick riffs, warm bass lines, thunderous drums, and high kicks made for a captivating live performance including at least one track the band โ€œcouldnโ€™t get rid offโ€ and I could sing along to: โ€˜Argue Like I Love Youโ€™. Iโ€™m only mentioning it so you can have a listen to it on streaming platforms and get a taste of what fantastic rock outfit is made of! With an audience eager to get lost in the music and a band ready to bring a maze of sounds, the two bounced off each other and created a wonderful atmosphere that is hard to replicate when youโ€™re not completely entranced by your own craft.

The night made for a great introduction to Huddersfieldโ€™s Parish as well as opening acts Bryony Williams and The Caymans, and To The Lighthouse established once more what a joy it is to experience them live.
