Stoke-On-Trent’s Formal Sppeedwear Drop trippy and unpredictable second single ‘A Dismount’
Following up from their debut single ‘Bunto’, a super fun Talking Heads-inspired indie jam, Stoke’s Formal Sppeedwear have now dropped their second single ‘A Dismount’.
‘A Dismount’ shows the band embrace their own character more, expanding on their sound while never losing the buzzy energy that piqued fans’ interests.
The track opens with a slow-moving marching drum, with each hit carrying real weight to it. Soon, glistening and glitchy synths come to life, with Clewlow’s vocals warbling atop, dripping in effects. The Byrne and LCD Soundsystem influence is certainly still there but, as the track unfolds, Formal Sppeedwear’s odd musical choices make them stand out on their own.
In the middle section, the track almost completely cuts out, leaving only squelchy, jittery synth sounds, like a creature finally heard after living in the shadows of the bright instrumental. Soon, the track roars back into gear, with its strange blend of satisfying nostalgia and slightly unnerving edge.
We hope that on their debut EP, Formal Sppeedwear continue to explore their sound and delve into even more curious and strange avenues.
