Pop three-piece Girl Ray drop the infectiously fun ‘Hold Tight’ and share news of their third album, dropping in August

With two successful albums under their belt, London pop trio Girl Ray today announce their third, ‘Prestige’, will be released on 4th August. Co-produced by Grammy-award-winning producer Ben H. Allen and Girl Ray’s very own Poppy Hankin, the album promises to be full of summery disco-pop anthems.

From the opening beat of ‘Hold Tight’, Girl Ray will have your attention. A head-bopping drum beat/guitar strum combo lovingly propels the track in its laid back direction. This instrumental never outstays its welcome, with a brief 2 and a half minute runtime, but not a second is wasted. The synth lines mirror vocal lines, bongos keep the groove, and jangly guitars keep the mood carefree throughout.

The lyrics and vocals are equally as charming. When combined with the jangly instrumentation, these vocals could have come straight from Haim’s last album. I’m sure this comparison has been made many times but it should definitely be seen as a compliment.

The central line “talking shit in the grass would be just fine, my baby” flows so satisfyingly and demonstrates just how proficient at pop songwriting Girl Ray really are.

Girl Ray’s third album ‘Prestige’ is out on 4th August via Moshi Moshi.
