Texan indie pop duo Hovvdy have released another single ahead of their fifth studio album, the self-titled ‘Hovvdy’

The self-titled double album from Hovvdy is set to be released April 26th via Arts & Crafts. The project intends to go beyond anywhere the pair have gone before. When asked about the album Will Taylor saidย  โ€œwe tried to really step back and look at: How can we convey our songwriting in a new way? It challenged the songs we brought, and it challenged me to be more vulnerable.โ€

The new track, titled ‘Meant‘, is three minutes of pure vulnerability. It explores a narrator healing from a struggle, seemingly surrounding mental health or grief. Verses offer glimpses into that with which they were grappling, with gut-wrenching lyrics such as, โ€œI’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired lately,โ€ and โ€œI know it’s not gonna be easy.โ€ Essentially, it’s about healing, knowing that healing isnโ€™t linear, and also understanding that relying on others is hard but necessary.ย

The โ€˜meantโ€™ of it all regards the one who stayed when times were difficult. We hear the narrator’s gratitude during the expansive choruses, four simple lines declaring how much it meant that the other person stayed.

The track is dripping with fuzzy textured synths, giving us a sense of a hot summer night.ย  It takes its time to move between verse and chorus, between chorus and verse; almost mimicking the consistency which ‘Meant‘ is an ode to. Alongside that, the minute long outro imbues a feeling of hope and optimism. The journey to being healed isn’t over, but we know there are good times ahead.ย

All singles off the album are out now. Have a listen to them while waiting for Hovvdyโ€™s UK and European tour this May.
