With his latest single ‘Friend or Foe’ Jordan Rakei shows us what to expect from his forthcoming album ‘The Loop’
Jordan Rakei’s recent musical journey has been powerful and intimate and ‘Friend or Foe’ is no exception to that. Marking a new chapter in his career, ‘The Loop’ is Jordan’s fifth studio album and if this single is anything to go off, it’s going to be one full of soul, centering around his impressive raw vocals and talented songwriting.
Stripped back with an old school feel, the song begins with synchronised claps, isolating his voice as he opens with the bold line ‘If a friend, or a foe, or least someone that you’ve known disappears from the soil of this sphere then only then, will you know, that a version of yourself will fade away and never re-appear.’
Exploring the idea of relationships and how they grow and change throughout your life, this track builds into something full of sound with elements of jazz and a choir providing a backdrop to Jordan’s rich vocals. There’s a cinematic feel to this song; it can easily be pictured filling a room for a powerful moment in a film as it harbours this grand feeling in both its sound and lyrics.
