London post-punk collective KEG return with their first single of the year, the jittery and unpredictable ‘Michael Phelps’

Those familiar with KEG may not be altogether surprised that they have dropped a single all about unexpected muse American swimmer Michael Phelps. “Teach your children to swim / ’cause one day Michael Phelps will be king”, vocalist Albert yelps over jittery drums and restless riffs.

The track is a wonderfully messy, synthy and unpredictable adventure, taking us through multiple phases. One second we are in an early Squid-esque verse before we are brutally thrown into a thrashy hard rock death pit halfway through. Hearing KEG shake up their sound so violently here is so much fun and makes their bubbly return to the silly verse all the more satisfying.

Through their high energy live shows and increasingly unique singles, KEG are slowly but surely carving out their own 7-man space in the indie scene.
