Bristol-based artist and producer, MLY, returns with her long-awaited second single, ‘Madonna‘, the follow-up to her debut single ‘Lovers

While MLY’s debut single ‘Lovers‘ looked at heartbreak, ‘Madonna‘ flips the script on relationships and explores the Madonna-whore dichotomy and feminine rage, putting women at the forefront.

The artist practises what she preaches as the song was created entirely by women – being written and produced by MLY, mixed by elusive producer G and mastered by fellow Bristolian musician Emily Magpie.

The newest single is a cocktail of pop genres; dream-pop is mixed with the guitar melodies of alt-pop and the lo-fi sounds of bedroom pop, featuring MLY’s softly haunting vocals from the very beginning.

While the melody may be the very opposite of feminine rage, more akin to tracks from indie folk trio Daughter than heavy rock tracks from artists like t.A.T.u and Rina Sawayama, it’s the lyrics that pack the punch.
