Bristol art-pop newcomers MP3 Chainsaw drop ‘Interview Gold’, an ambitious and genre-bending second single
MP3 Chainsaw burst onto the scene earlier this year with their debut single ‘Clydecore’. It was difficult to put a finger on their sound then and it’s just as hard now with their second single. ‘Interview Gold’ is an equally ambitious and unpredictable dive into the world of MP3 Chainsaw, with pop, shoegaze and arena rock influences all present.
Starting as a fairly conventional if edgy art-pop effort, the wonky and off-kilter riffs make you uneasy, like something dark is bubbling underneath the soft vocals. As the track unfolds, this sinister energy crawls out further, before fully revealing itself to us with haunting wailing guitars and heavy hard-rock basslines: a deserved and satisfying climax.
With two singles under their belt, MP3 Chainsaw continue to prove themselves to be one of the strangest and most interesting bands in the current Bristol scene.
