London-based 6-piece Man/Woman/Chainsaw make their 7″ vinyl debut with latest cathartic single ‘MadDog’

London-based Man/Woman/Chainsaw, the experimental art-rock six piece, released their new single โ€˜MadDogโ€™ on 5th May via So Young Records. This release is accompanied by a 7โ€ vinyl version of the track, which marks their debut vinyl release after three years of releasing music.

Man/Woman/Chainsaw are a teenage sextet made up of Billy Ward (vocals, guitars), Vera Leppรคnen (vocals, bass), Emmie-Mae Avery (vocals, keys/synths), Billy Doyle (guitars), Lola Cherry (drums) and Clio Harwood (violin).ย

Their newest release, โ€˜MadDogโ€™, explores the breakdown of a friendship and watching someone you once knew so well change into someone unrecognisable and incompatibleโ€“ an experience that is often unavoidable when youโ€™re growing up. People change, and โ€˜MadDogโ€™ is Vera Leppรคnenโ€™s version of catharsis and coming to terms with the loss of a friend.ย

The beginning of โ€˜MadDogโ€™ keeps in line with their usual punky loud song, with frantic guitar riffs and crashing drums, you can almost taste the anger. Leppรคnenโ€™s vocals are raspy and shrouded in frustration until the track takes a turn sonically. Halfway through the song, the anger melts away and is replaced by sadness and nostalgia for her loss. The menacing instruments are replaced with the sound of a weeping violin and Leppรคnenโ€™s vocals ease, becoming solemn and soft.

With the last sound being a twinkle of piano keys, the track ends in a completely different manner to the rage-filled way it began. โ€˜MadDogโ€™ is another shining release from one of the most original and unorthodox alternative bands in the London music scene right now.
