London newcomers Man/Woman/Chainsaw sign to Fat Possum, announce debut EP and drop new single ‘Ode To Clio’
With only three previous singles released, Man/Woman/Chainsaw have been steadily gathering speed, finding themselves one of the buzziest up-and-coming London bands. Now, they’re finding their rhythm, with a signing to Fat Possum Records, debut EP and brand new single all announced this week.
Man/Woman/Chainsaw’s sound has always been unpredictable and this doesn’t seem to be changing, with their debut EP ‘Eazy Peazy’ promising to include “cinematic arrangements, mauled by moments of cacophony”. And, to add to the excitement, we have producer Daniel Fox, who has recently worked with Sprints and Naked Lungs as well as providing bass for noise rock legends Gilla Band of course.
The new track ‘Ode To Clio’ is a triumphant explosion of sounds, with the band cramming in every influence and texture they possibly can. From the start, we’re teased with the energy to come with frenetic drums bursting into the room, before the instrumental becomes sparse, with only vocals backed by subtle drums and a droney bass.
The build up is extremely satisfying, with piano chords, vocal harmonies and beautiful soaring violins (from the song’s namesake Clio Starwood) all layering atop of each other. Soon though, the track takes a complete U-Turn, with the sound exploding; vocals become shouty, the drums pounding and guitars heavily distorted and powerful. All the way through, the violin wails, guiding us through the many twists and turns.
Debut EP ‘Eazy Peazy’ is out on 8th November via Fat Possum.
