In case the political megaphone of doom drowned out the good news noise for you this week, we’re here to deliver some happy: the much anticipated shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2019 has arrived and it’s a blinder. With bells on.
Little Simz, Black Midi and Slowthai are all in the running for the prize this year, but making serious waves for us on the illustrious list are Dublin punks Fontaines D.C. and – one true love – IDLES. You know that little buzz you get when you hear a set of headphones on the other side of the bus leaking one of your fave tunes? This is that, but everyone on the bus is buzzing and a sweaty commute never felt so good.
Fontaines D.C. storming Glastonbury earlier this year:
Judges, including Jorja Smith and Annie Mac, whittled over two hundred albums for consideration down to the shortlisted twelve. The winner of the Mercury Prize will be revealed on 19th September.
