We chat to Eric C. Davies and Claudia Vulliamy of Oslo Twins discuss their latest EP ‘Tresor’, their studio on East London, and more

The Bristol formed but East London based synth-pop band Oslo Twins recently shared their latest cut ‘I wake Up Slowly’, an expansive sound that is eloquently euphoric. It’s a taster of what to expect with the bands new EP ‘Tresor’, which is out in a mere matter of days (March 14th). Ahead of this release, we wanted to chat to the dynamic duo about the new release, how living in East London has affected their music, and more.

Kieran: Hey there! Thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump straight in and chat about your music! You recently shared your latest single ‘I Wake Up Slowly’, can you talk us through this release and what it means to you?

Claudia: Itโ€™s exciting to share this one, because itโ€™s a bit different from our other tracks. Itโ€™s big on rhythm and movement, rather than melody which is our usual focus, with the lyrics almost entirely spoken. For me it goes perfectly with the oncoming of spring, because itโ€™s about starting to move and change after being stagnant.

Kieran: The single is taken from your forthcoming ‘Tresor’ EP, which is out March 14th, what can you tell us about the EP as a whole? What can people expect from this body of work?

Claudia: Itโ€™s electronic and intricate. It focuses a lot on imagined spaces. Youโ€™ll sleep and wake up again and sleep and wake up again. Itโ€™s my favourite thing weโ€™ve made so far.

Kieran: Did you do anything differently for the writing and recording of this EP?

Eric: Producing all the music ourselves in my studio gave us the opportunity to be more experimental than previous releases. It also made the process more fun which definitely shined through into the music itself.

Kieran: East London has a very industrial, vibrant, and exciting feel about it and I am curious to know if any of this energy finds its way into your music? If so, how and why?

Eric: Yes it does. The studio is off the back of an industrial park overlooking a concrete factory so Iโ€™d definitely say that had an influence on some of the sounds we used!

Kieran: When writing your music in general do you take influence from your surroundings or do you feel it is perhaps more abstract?

Claudia: For me itโ€™s very abstract, and itโ€™s sometimes hard to say where it comes from. Itโ€™s very subconscious.

Kieran: Lastly, what advice would you give to anyone starting to create their own music?

Eric: Focus on making music you love and be as self sufficient as possible.
