London indie quartet Pynch return with new single ‘The Supermarket,’ accompanied by a music video
Since the release of their debut album ‘Howling at a Concrete Moon’ in 2023, Pynch have been playing stages across the UK and beyond. The London indie quartet, known for their nostalgia-inducing, synth-pop tunes, are back with their latest single ‘The Supermarket’.
Described as “a hangover song about strange days” by the band, from the very first note the track is undeniably Pynch, layering the beat with groovy guitars and building synths. Enock begins in his characteristically apathetic tone, blending seamlessly into the mix singing “Gonna go, to the supermarket, all I want, is to feel normal”.
The loopy and ethereal synths combined with the gritty guitar and Enock’s passive delivery of the lightly existential lyrics blend to create a rhythmic portrayal of the detached yet uneasy feeling that comes with growing up.
The track’s release was accompanied by a music video – directed by Macgregor Marshfield – emanating the same reminiscent chaos as many of their previous videos. With cyclical visuals, you go on a journey with the band whilst simultaneously staying put, spinning in circles with them through the supermarket.
If ‘The Supermarket‘ is any indication of what music Pynch have got to come in 2025, then fans are sure to feel it’s been worth the wait. This defiant yet wistful track is a great way to jump back into releasing music, and is certain to leave you wanting to put your headphones on and dance around the supermarket in the middle of the night, trying to fight the bubbling nostalgia of simpler days, repeating the mantra “I don’t want to feel strange anymore” long after the song’s end.
