Essence Martins turns the bad into beautiful with ‘Red Velvet’, a track born out of intense heartbreak.

Essence Martins has a talent of turning the bad into the beautiful. Martins‘ recent single, โ€˜Red Velvetโ€™, showcases this talent, transforming her โ€œfirst intense heartbreakโ€ into three minutes of ethereal vocals and folky guitars.

Red Velvet‘ follows the aftermath of a breakup and how Martins began to steadily feel more disconnected from her lover, commenting that โ€œitโ€™s the classic lovers-to-strangers storyโ€.ย

The chorus dwells on the dramatic difference between being so intertwined to not speaking at all โ€“ โ€˜I know what you taste like / But not what you want / I was your favourite / But now Iโ€™m no oneโ€™. The delivery of these confessional and emotional lyrics is dreamlike, accompanied by hauntingly beautiful harmonies.ย

โ€˜Red Velvetโ€™ is another successful offering from Essence Martins, using her worst experiences to create impactful and infectious indie-pop tunes.ย
