Indie rock upstarts Keo have finally released their debut EP, ‘Siren‘ into the wild. Indie fans all across the UK have raved about this group since their debut single ‘I Lied, Amber‘ sprung up in everyone’s social media. The hype around Keo, for a fairly new band, has been pretty crazy. I would venture to say, as an avid indie listener and one who is alrgorithmically targeted to see all things new about the genre, Keo have been a frequent mention for quite some time. So, what does this EP have to offer?
The five-track EP holds so much of that invigorating live energy the band are well-known for, each track is pulsating with that raw energy that people love so much. Apart from the lead single, ‘I Lied, Amber‘, tracks like ‘Hands‘ and ‘Kind, If You Will‘ are destined to gather just as much praise and attention. Their sound is full and all-encompassing, harbouring a sound popularised most recently by bands like Wunderhorse, (a fair comparison, although perhaps slightly overstated). In my opinion, Keo‘s energy has the garage, grungey indie flavour of Wunderhorse, for sure. But I argue that their sound differs slightly in the fact that Keo give me a far more youthful inflection on the sound, which I think might be their secret ingredient.
Overall, Keo are a band who managed, through a fantastic PR campaign, to gather a very devoted and engaged fanbase right from the off. Before the release of this EP, their first major body of work, they have sold out a UK headline tour for this October, which is a statement of intent for sure. This fantastic momentum means they are primed for indie stardom, with the fans firmly behind them… the best we can do is keep listening.
