Hackney resident Callum Brown has made a name producing and playing with acts such as Mint Field and Ulrika Spacek and, under the Yore moniker, is now ready to release his debut album of the same name. The album is a collaborative effort with Callum at the helm each track adopting a different singer. With a project such as this, the music usually changes and adapts around the singer that has taken the track but on Yore, it’s the singers which morph around the song. This approach gives the album a flow that makes for a cohesive but ever changing body of work.

With feet planted firmly in electronic indie/shoegaze in the style of Tame Impala and Mac Demarco, Callum’s Yore album isn’t afraid to dip its toe into other waters. ‘Shade’ starts with an almost math rock guitar riff before evolving in to a blissful chill track and ‘Hawing’ is a nice slice of 80’s shoegaze with its use of chorus laden guitar, synth and Casio-style drum beat. This mixing of styles gives Yore great texture and almost demands repeat listens to take in the various intricacies.

The album may not be full of juicy earworms but it is wonderfully made. Sit back, relax and let Yore nestle you in his cosy nest of sounds.
