Aussie indie outfit Royel Otis return with their infectious new single ‘I Wanna Dance With You’
Songwriting dream team and childhood friends, Royel Otis, share their brand new single ‘I Wanna Dance With You’, ahead of the release of their brand new EP, ‘Sofa Kings’ scheduled for the 31st March. The track sees the indie pop duo, otherwise known as Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell, continue to lean into the loose, edgy, gritty sound found in their last EP ‘Bar n Grill’. Fans of their debut EP, ‘Campus’, need not despair as the pairs’ nostalgic sound is ever present, alongside an exceptional pop melody and a catchy chorus.
‘I Wanna Dance With You’ arrives with a stunningly simplistic music video. Packed with youthful nostalgia, the clip follows a young boy as he nervously prepares for an upcoming dance party with his crush. The adolescent feeling of nervous excitement can be felt as the lyrics ‘I wanna dance with you’ are repeated over and over.
The track combines bright jangling guitars, energetic rhythm, and layered vocals to create a sound reminisce of a sunny, care-free road trip. If you’re a fan of MGMT, Wet Leg, or Viola Beach then you will enjoy the vibrant energy and delightful guitar licks.
Following the duos brilliant end to 2022, with their first ever European and UK tour, I’m excited to listen to ‘Sofa Kings’ in its entirety. The EP promises seven tracks of visceral stories atop blissful guitar-fuzzed haze and, after listening to ‘I Wanna Dance with you’, I can’t wait to hear the rest.
