Indie pop musician SOFY celebrates the release of new mixtape ‘Another Day In Paradise’ with launch party and acoustic set

Based in Leicester, SOFY is an artist and songwriter and one of the most exciting names in UK indie. The buzz around her is well-deserved, and the demand speaks for itself. After making it onto several summer lineups, she recently toured with Alfie Templeman, cementing her place as an artist to watch.

Amidst this whirlwind of a take-off, she managed to put together Another Day in Paradise‘, a nine-track mixtape born to the world last Friday, March 7th. I had the pleasure of attending its launch party, where SOFY played an acoustic set, offering an intimate preview of the record.

The launch took place at Ridley Road Market Bar, a quirky gem tucked off the main street in Dalston. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the strong branding, which was visible in every corner of the venue. The attention to detail in creating SOFY’s worldโ€”from a photo booth featuring a rabbit mascot, to a themed drink menu, and a racetrack sprawling across the checked floorโ€”made it clear I was stepping into a space designed entirely to celebrate her creative vision. I couldnโ€™t wait to explore more.

In SOFY’s own words, Another Day in Paradise is “a record about a love story,” but as the album unfolds, itโ€™s clear that it’s not all butterflies and sunshine. The production, with its constant shifts in tempo and mood, mirrors the emotional rollercoaster that romantic encounters often take us on. SOFY paints a picture of potentially disastrous situations that we just canโ€™t resist throwing ourselves into.ย

The opening track, ‘sticky‘ draws us in with a sultry first verse, while the chorus encapsulates the guessing games that so often accompany the beginnings of relationships. SOFY cries out for someone to help her regain control, but ultimately, sheโ€™s left spinning. By the songโ€™s outro the melody feels like we are sitting on a carousel, enjoying the fun but also feeling a little nauseous from spinning uncontrollably into a potential sticky mess.ย

The production is polished, yet retains a raw, emotional edge that perfectly complements SOFYโ€™s lyrical content. It blends atmospheric synths with punchy beats and minimalistic instrumentation, placing strong emphasis on texture. Thereโ€™s a seamless balance between organic and synthetic sounds that gives the album a dynamic, multi-layered feel. The third song on the album – ‘togethertogether is a perfect example of the success of this formula.

A piece of advice for first-time listeners: Proceed with caution, as this track is a certified earworm. The bridge masterfully builds tension before bursting into a euphoric chorus that makes you want to dance while laughing and crying about your confused heart.

Midway through the mixtape, we find a gem in the song ‘mine‘. I would like to draw attention to SOFYโ€™s songwriting in this one. The verses, with lines like “By the way, would you ever / Turn your guilt into pleasure?” feel like a tentative tap on the shoulder, testing the waters while convincing yourself that youโ€™ll be fine no matter what the answer is.

SOFY subtly conveys a sense of wanting to be there for someone but waiting for confirmation that they want the same. The bridge, with “London’s running rings around me / A scribble on the steam, it could be you and me”, captures the frantic energy of living in a city like London, where everything is constantly buzzing but the opportunity to make a meaningful connection is too tempting to pass up.

As SOFY guided the crowd through each song, the intimacy of the acoustic performance felt like a full-circle moment, especially considering the album was originally written on an acoustic guitar.

By the time the final track, ‘floating forever‘, rolled around, I felt completely absorbed in the journey. This song ties the album together beautifully, referencing lyrics from the first track with “Baby, you can call me what you want.” The feeling of floating in love ties back to the rollercoaster ride of “sticky,” but SOFY uses melody and lyrics to express a more uplifting emotionโ€”a love that carries you up instead of spinning you into chaos.

Another Day in Paradise is truly a record about love, touching on the messy, confusing but exciting act of falling for someone, the kind where we risk it all despite the potential for disaster. The punchy, relatable lyrics hit where it hurts, while the catchy, joyful melodies keep you hooked. Itโ€™s like being in a toxic relationship with the albumโ€”one you just canโ€™t seem to walk away from. And honestly, I donโ€™t want to.
