Folk Three Piece, The Howl & The Hum, Share The Stunning Video For Their Latest Single ‘Thumbs Up’

Singer Sam Griffiths approached director Matthew Thorne to make the video, discovering that both of their families come from the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales. They realised it was the perfect location to shoot, as they follow the story of a young man struggling with small town life in an ex-coal mining community. The video, which is intended as a partner story to the video for ‘The Only Boy Racer Left On The Island’, explores themes of mental health and masculinity.

Matthew Thorne described the video as, “a story of late night takeaways (and the fights they cause), of watching Dad who never spoke about his feelings cry as he sings in the Men’s club, of watching your friend wipe the blood from his knuckles after he beat his hands against the brick wall of the pub after his missus left because that’s how he watched his Dad do it, of Uncles who protect you, and Aunties who throw you out the door.”

‘Thumbs Up’ is the band’s first single since the release of their acclaimed debut album ‘Human Contact’. Which saw praise from a litany of national radio stations and press.
