Bristol’s’ brilliant music culture is forever booming, producing new talent seemingly every day. A band inspiring those up-and-comers The Scribes  have been in the business for over 15 years now, releasing their first EP ‘The Evolution’ on Spotify in 2005. Their hard work has paid off with critically acclaimed performances alongside the likes of De La Soul, Wu-Tang Clan and The Sugar Hill Gang. Also with awards in the form of Eat Music Radio “Best Live Act” and the Exposure Music Award “Best UK Urban Act”.

Unique to the band is their mix of talent including beatboxing, freestyling and a huge range of genres within their music. It has an infectious energy that will rile a crowd within seconds of the first note. This energy has been consistent for the entirety of the musical output from The Scribes and ‘The Totem Trilogy, Pt. 1’ is included in that statement.

Beginning the EP is the fresh track ‘Im Back’ featuring the legend MC Duke and Astro Snare. The song begins with a strong drum beat and brass followed by some influential freestyle. This energy resonates throughout the EP.

Next up ‘Mighty Mighty’ has a slightly slower beat to it yet is The Scribes at their best with tongue tangling lyrics that will gas any listener up. This follows with ‘Rock This. Pt 2’ speaking of how the band is ready to perform. Taking over, ‘Heartbreaks’ starts slightly slower than the tracks prior with some chilled piano, but before the audience knows it they’re bouncing with some heavy flowing freestyle and a hard-hitting drumbeat.

Finally, ending the EP with a certified banger ‘Keep Bouncing’ showcases The Scribes‘ beatboxing talents, a gloriously frantic beat that is behind a lyric that inspires movement and positive energy. This song hits hard.

‘The Totem Trilogy, Pt. 1’ is the first in a three-part series of releases from The Scribes. This act looks to be set for the top of the music food chain, and with two more EP’s of this quality, that will be no problem for the threesome.
