Scottish renegades Casual Drag come steaming through with their snarling new single ‘Can You Hear Me Now?’
Scotland has long been known for a nation of wild-eyed peoples and the chaotic and frantic sounds of Casual Drag strong suggests this is still the case. However, unlike their forefathers, who wielded a Lochaber Axe, they’re wielding guitars and a thumping set of percussion. It’s a sound that is as infectious as it is wild and their latest single ‘Can You Hear Me Now’ is a shining example of the bands exemplary sound.
Speaking on their latest release Singer Richard says: “The song is about coming through hard times โ be that trauma, personal tragedy or prejudice – and saying: take a look at me now, can you hear me now, can you see me now? – This is a rallying call for the beat down, and anyone who has had to deal with the hard brutality that life can dish out-and come through it the other end as a victor – not a victim, the first line sets theย tone.โ
‘Can You Hear Me Now?’ comes bursting through the door, grabs your head and commands you listen, which oblige willingly. As the thumping percussion rains down on you you are treated to a wave of guitars led by snarling vocals. The anger comes barreling out Richards mouth in a way that makes you stand up and be counted, joining their ranks of the “beat-down”. It’s an incredibly impressive track that leaves you reeling for more.
Casual Drag are a true palate cleanser in a world filled with sickly sweet pop dominating the airwaves and a reminder that true, visceral rock music still exists.
