Matt Wellham

After years of photographing and filming the London music scene, Matt’s now based in Sydney, Australia. A lover of the post-punk and alternative movement, he can usually be found in the grassroots venues, camera in one hand and a beer in the other.

Crocodylus continue to broaden their sound with one of the most technical songs they’ve ever written: ‘Leech’.

Eora/Sydneyโ€™s own Crocodylus are on a scorching streak with recent singles from their upcoming record ‘Limbo, Please Be Good To Me out April 24 via ORiGiN Recordings.ย

With two belters, โ€˜Limboโ€™ and โ€˜Attentionโ€™ already out, today they return with their third track โ€˜Leechโ€™.

On first listen, โ€˜Leechโ€™ takes Crocodylusโ€™ established post-punk tones and widens their sound with deeper,ย more complex instrumentation. The track flows from a brash punk recording, before blending beautifully into rich strings that soar over the band thrashing away underneath. Think Hockey Dad meets Squid.ย

Describing their track In their own words: โ€œNo beating around the bush or metaphors here โ€” this is literally a song about being a leech. That said, it might be one of the most technical songs we’ve ever written. Our producer, Wade Keighran, really brought new life to it. Originally, the song felt a bit too short, so we added the outro jam โ€” which just kept getting longer and longer. Never thought we’d have a riff in 11/4, and the strings are really something special.โ€

Itโ€™s exciting to see Crocodylus continue to push boundaries and try new things on this run of singles. If the album continues in the same vein, then weโ€™re in for something truly unique from the Australian music scene.
