Drummer first and foremost, but will happily give an opinion on anything rock, indie and punk related.
‘Stone Over Water’ is classic Death Cab For Cutie whilst also ushering in a new era for the group with their latest album ‘I Built You A Tower’ out now.
Pacific Northwest indie legends Death Cab for Cutie have revealed their final single off of their new record ‘I Built You A Tower‘, which released June 5th. The single, ‘Stone Over Water‘ is a hark back to the old days of the band, lyrically it is “a song about trying to convince everyone around you and most importantly, yourself, that you are okay when you definitely are not.” During the week leading up to the album release, the band performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, playing their lead single off of the new record, ‘Riptides‘, further celebrating the bandโs 9th #1 song on the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplayย chart.ย
This single, much like the full length album it precedes, is powered by a recent run of anniversary tours regarding 20-year milestones of seminal releases, including the albums ‘Transatlanticism‘ย andย ‘Plans‘. This energy has clearly been transferred into this album. ‘Stone Over Water‘ applies typical Death Cab lyrics and perspectives into a fresh take on the band’s sound that still satisfies the nostalgia wave the band have been riding. Fan responses to their new material has proved overwhelmingly positive, echoing the sentiment that DCFC fans are overjoyed that the band are still going strong, since their inception in 1997.
Overall, this final single offers that classic Death Cab sound, allowing the band to fully utilise the appraisals of their previous work into a new era for the group, beginning with the release of their new record, ‘I Built You A Tower‘.
