Manchester’s Freak Slug announces the new expanded release of ‘I Blow Out Big Candles’ with new single ‘Liquorice’
Freak Slugโs ever-growing popularity shows that there is an appetite to follow her, as she floats on the clouds of bedroom pop and burrows down into gloomy grunge-filled tunnels. Her melding of style is perhaps best epitomised by her latest single ‘Liquorice‘, which will feature on the on the expanded LP release of her debut album, with an aptly extended title, ‘I Blow Out Big Candles (But With A Cherry On Top).‘
‘Liquorice‘ is set to nestle between the wistful ‘Be Your Girl‘ and the daydreamy ‘Get Away‘. Listening to these three tracks back-to-back is like hearing a three-act play, with ‘Liquorice‘ propelling the central conflict through sarcastic vocals and short-tempered guitars.
Alone, ‘Liquorice‘ is a sweet cautionary tale on love that pokes at the dangers of accepting poor behaviour as the norm. The repeated “Fuck it. I still love you” sung to the backdrop of untidy licks as the track closes out, is a reminder of our innate desire to feel wanted, however incomprehensible our actions may seem to others.
‘I Blow Out Big Candles (But With A Cherry On Top)‘ is out on 7th March 2025 via Future Classics.
