Rising stars Welly have released the latest single in the lead-up to their debut album, ‘Big in the Suburbs’

‘Roundabout Racehorse’ details the familiar feeling of dread when visiting your hometown – old perceptions, old relationships, old mentalities – unable to avoid reverting back to your younger self, yet finding shame in pretending you’re better than where you came from. Welly succinctly sum this up, offering “what good is being big, if you’re big in the suburbs?”

The single is bouncy, leaving room for chants and instrumental breakdowns, in particular letting the bass and group vocals have their spotlight. It’s easy for Welly’s songwriting to strike a chord if you find yourself relating to the sentiment, which may be shocking due to the sarcasm and irony the lyrics tend to be dripping in. ‘Roundabout Racehorse’ is another impressive offering from Welly that proves the need for music that’s fun and self-aware.
