I’m a writer hailing from the distant land of Norfolk. With a deep love for vinyl, currently standing at over 100 in my collection. When it comes to picking a favourite artist, it will always be the sounds of Trish Keenan and Broadcast.

Getdown Services release reflective single ‘Chrysalis’ ahead of incoming new EP ‘Primordial Slot Machine’

‘Chrysalis’ is a perfect continuation of where Getdown Services left us with 2024’s ‘Your Medal’s In The Post‘ EP. I can confidently say this duo are equipped with all the right tools to deliver an evolved sound on the forthcoming EP ‘Primordial Slot Machine’.

Brand new single ‘Chrysalis’ is a wonderful meditation around the phrase ‘modern life is rubbish’ and what it means to live and breathe modern life in Britain. The duo’s supreme sense of wit shines through and prevents the track ruminating on any negativity. Speaking about the single, Josh says: “This song is about a specific feeling I get when I realise my circumstances might have improved but my mood hasn’t really caught up.”

He added: “You need to remind yourself to enjoy your achievements because the chances are your natural reaction will be to downplay or see the worst in them.  It’s also about the confusion of finding yourself being self destructive when things do start to go well in your life.

However, in keeping with some of the sharpest and funniest lyrics to come out of the 2020’s so far, Josh knows how to keep it light: “It’s got a reference to a scene from Don’t Tell The Bride we both really like. A bloke books a Las Vegas wedding and spends all the budget on the stag do so the bride to be’s family can’t afford to come and she’s absolutely fuming at him in the airport whilst he’s nagging her for a hug. Very funny”.

The duo have a stacked summer on their way to the top, with festival sets at Glastonbury and End of the Road to come. You can also find them heading off on a UK headline tour, including a monumental gig at Islington’s Assembly Hall on 10th November.
