Did a sports journalism degree, write about music instead. Used to sing, now you can find me either at a gig or in the pub in the centre of the universe – Leeds.
Amongst those at the forefront of the Irish post-punk boom of recent times, Gurriers are staking their claim once more on ‘Erasure’
Their first release since their critically acclaimed debut full-length release, 2024’s ‘Come and See’, the Dublin punks are on top form with this new one – shunning any thought when it comes to ‘second album syndrome’ following their first record.
‘Erasure’ is canned chaos shaking to be released. Your signature modern post-punk grating riffs are twinned with a haunting calm before a screaming storm in the vocal department, accompanied by an unusual but welcomed electronic sound.
With its wall of death guitars and shout along lyricism – ‘Erasure’ is a well-received headache. A call to arms, its urgent vocal delivery makes for a statement track. It is a current of an unexpected plethora of sound and feeling coming together to form an unlikely post-punk baby.
Only getting bigger and only getting better, Gurriers show no sign of slowing down with their new release. And with their biggest ever tours across the world upon them, as well as a huge support slot with Kneecap at Wembley Arena – I think it’s safe to say they’ll be at the ‘Top of the Bill’ of many a festival and bucket list for years to come.
