Drummer first and foremost, but will happily give an opinion on anything rock, indie and punk related.
Gurriers’ latest track is anxious, raw and distorted ahead of new album to be released 25th September.
Gurriers have recently released the title track for their upcoming record, due to release on the 25th September. ‘Nobody’s Coming to Save You‘ is a gutsy post-punk track, beaming with the iconic Irish swagger that Gurriers are well-known for. It bursts from anxious verses into a raw and impactful chorus, depicting an evolution in Gurriers‘ sound towards a far more angsty and distorted space. The music video, directed by Thomas James (Kneecap, Bring Me the Horizon, Young Fathers), is branded as ‘equal parts music video and psychological horror short’, one that sets the tone of the record, namely in a post-apocalyptic world crafted and soundtracked by the music of Gurriers.
The sound of this tune differs from previous heavy hitters from Gurriers, such as ‘Top of the Bill‘, which is far more restrained, melodic and spaced out. The move into a more driven punk rock sound makes perfect sense for Gurriers; it simply feels like turning up the dial a few notches.
Overall, the idea that ‘Nobody’s Coming to Save You‘, knowing Gurriers, most likely has a political and social commentary element. I think that phrase has application to all areas of political history, especially when describing the feeling of isolation and abandonment by the powers that be, towards the younger generations in the modern day.
Regardless, this is a catchy, well-written song. For fans of Gurriers, it promises a new album full of similar surprises, so if this excites you, save the date for the release of their new record, September 25th.
